Daughter priyanka held for parents’ murder

I am here because of my mother, a jubilant Priyanka had announced from the stage moments after she was crowned Miss Meerut 2005. Three years later, on Monday she once again faced mediapersons: "Yes, I have murdered my mother and father."

The sensational double murder case was worked out on Monday when Priyanka and her friend Anju were arrested by the police. A property dispute was stated to be the cause of the crime and Rs.50,000 in cash, a mobile phone, pass books and cheque books of different banks, fixed deposit receipts, National Savings Certificates and Kisan Vikas Patras worth Rs.6 to 7 lakh, jewellery and papers related to the old couple’s house were recovered from the accused. Both Priyanka and Anju are students of the State Women’s Polytechnic in South Delhi.
Priyanka claimed that she was always looked down by her family. "My father and brother always accused me of being my mother’s illegitimate child. There were times when I was ill, but forced to carry out daily kitchen chores and thrashed black and blue for even small mistakes," sobbing Priyanka said.
"I was worthless for my family because I was a girl - an unwanted child. Things were so bad that once my uncle raped me and when I reported the matter to parents, they held me responsible for it," Anju told the police.
According to Anju, her father Shankerpal was a bank officer and was murdered allegedly at the instance of her uncle for the sake of property. "My uncle then married my mother and I was shunted out when I was barely 15," Anju said.
